A Tacoma-area boy told investigators the back of his 4-year-old brother’s head was “squishy” after his father’s girlfriend allegedly threw the child to the floor, according to charging papers.
Sandy Figueroa Arriaga, 25, is charged with second-degree child assault.
Charging papers give this account:
The 4-year-old was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital on March 30 with a fractured skull, two black eyes and bruising on his legs and back.

He initially said he had fallen off a bike, but when his mother told him to be truthful, he said Figueroa had thrown him to the floor. He told investigators he was “hit and dropped on the floor by the defendant. He also described being choked.”
The boy’s older brother told investigators the 4-year-old was on his bed, not doing anything, when Figueroa pushed him, and he hit the back of his head hard on part of another bed.
He said the boy’s brain moved forward, his eyes closed shut and he had a soft, squishy spot like Play-Doh on his head.
Figueroa allegedly left the room without helping the boy. He was taken to the hospital the next day.
Her arraignment is scheduled for July 2. Court records did not list an attorney for her.
