An arrest warrant has been issued for a certified nursing assistant accused of stealing a two-carat diamond ring from the hand of an 82-year-old woman as she slept in a Tacoma assisted-living facility.
Pierce County prosecutors have charged Elizabeth Denise Pineda, 23, with first-degree theft. Detectives believe Pineda took the ring in December and later pawned it for $3,300, court records show.
Police have been unable to find Pineda, who no longer works at the facility where the alleged theft occurred.
“The state is concerned she may be seeking employment at other facilities and may once again have access to vulnerable adults,” deputy prosecutor Erika Nohavec wrote in charging documents.
