A 39-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting two people at an Auburn park Monday was arrested overnight while sleeping in his truck, police said.
Detectives declined to release the motive or what led up to the shooting, which took place about 9:20 p.m. at Les Gove Park.
A 32-year-old man was found dead at the scene. A 29-year-old woman later died at the hospital.
Police said the victims were transients from the Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, area who came to Auburn to work at the Muckleshoot fireworks stand through the Fourth of July holiday.
Witnesses to the shooting gave a description of the shooter and his truck to officers, who found the man sleeping in the truck about midnight Monday and took him into custody.
The gun used in the slayings was believed to be inside the truck.
The suspect, who has not been identified because he has not been criminally charged, also has ties to Coeur D’Alene and knew the victims, police said.
