2 men shot, injured overnight in Mount Tahoma High School parking lot

Tacoma police are investigating after two men, ages 18 and 26, were injured in a shooting Sunday evening in the parking lot of Mount Tahoma High School.

Police learned of the shooting after the men showed up at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood with gunshot wounds. Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Wendy Haddow said officers from Lakewood Police Department went to the hospital at about 9:30 p.m. to speak with them. One told officers they were talking in the parking lot when they were approached by two people and shot.

An argument between the two groups preceded the shooting, police said. Another person who was with the men drove them to the hospital. Their injuries weren’t life threatening. Haddow said neither gunshot victim was associated with Mount Tahoma.

No arrests have been made. Police said one man didn’t want to speak with officers, and the other did not have a good description of the shooting suspects.

Sunday’s shooting capped a violent weekend in Tacoma. Early Sunday morning, a man in his 40s was killed in a shooting in the city’s Stadium District, in the 100 block of St. Helens Avenue. It was the third homicide in Tacoma in 2023. At this time last year, the city had two reported homicides.
