The driver who allegedly ran from the scene of a fatal hit-and-run collision on Interstate 5 Wednesday morning has been arrested, and the Washington State Patrol has identified the victim.

Morgan M. Baker, 48 of Tacoma, was driving a motorcycle on northbound I-5 in the HOV lane about 3:20 a.m. near 54th Avenue East in Fife, the WSP said. That’s when she was struck from behind by a car driven by an Auburn man believed to be in his 20s.

Late Wednesday, WSP spokesperson trooper John Dattilo tweeted that the suspect had been apprehended and been booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run and vehicular homicide. The man turned himself in around 6 p.m., Dattilo said.

Baker died at the scene, the WSP said.

The car was found flipped on its roof about a mile away. The car’s driver took off on foot and police used a K-9 unit to search for him. The WSP did not state when or where he was taken into custody.

The freeway HOV lanes and left lanes going both directions were blocked nearly four hours, Dattilo said.
