Woman charged with assaulting Western State Hospital nurses
A patient accused of hitting and kicking two nurses at Western State Hospital has been has been charged with assault.
Megahn Morgan, 30, is to be arraigned Wednesday (July 22) on two counts of third-degree assault. Court records do not list an attorney for her.
Morgan was committed to the hospital after being found not guilty by reason of insanity for a 2005 second-degree assault charge in Kitsap County, and was set to be released in August.
On April 25, according to charging papers, she ran at a nurse, grabbed her by the upper arm and hit her in the back and on her hand, using closed fists. The nurse got away and another patient helped stop the assault.
The next day, prosecutors say, Morgan started hitting a nurse sitting in the day room, again using closed fists. She then kicked the nurse, who fell to the floor.
Others helped take Morgan away from the nurse, who was diagnosed with a possible sternum fracture.
Morgan apparently was refusing her medication at the time, and a doctor noted that when she started taking them again, her behavior improved.
