He was shot for no apparent reason. Now, Tacoma police need your help to solve the crime
A man had just stepped out of his Hilltop Tacoma apartment when a stranger shot him Oct. 7, and neither he nor Tacoma Police know why.
Now, investigators are asking the public for help in identifying the assailant. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 in reward money for information on the suspect.
About 9 p.m. Oct. 7 a resident of Hilltop Lofts apartments in the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way stepped into an adjoining alley. There, according to police, another man approached the victim and fired once.
“The victim did not know the suspect,” said Tacoma Police spokesperson detective William Muse on Friday. “The victim was not engaged in any illegal activity. He was not the victim of a robbery or attempted robbery.”
The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The suspect was described as a dark-complexioned man in his 40s, 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing, including a black ski mask.
According to one witness, a red sedan left the area just after the shooting.
The victim has left the hospital and is recovering from his injuries, Muse said.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS or visit tpcrimestoppers.com. Tipsters remain anonymous.
