Man arrested in death of woman whose body was found after brush fire in Tacoma, police say
A man in his 40s was arrested yesterday in connection with a homicide that occurred in the 2900 block of Upper Park Street last fall, according to Tacoma police.
The suspect identified in the case was booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of homicide by controlled substance, according to a news release Tacoma police sent Wednesday. Controlled substances homicide is a class B felony and refers to the crime committed when a person delivers a drug to another person and causes that person to die, according to state law.
Tacoma Police said in a news release on Sept. 14 that detectives believe the victim of the homicide “was doused with an accelerant and intentionally set on fire.”
Tacoma Fire Department crews were dispatched to a brush fire in the 2900 block of Upper Park Street, which is just south of I-5 and across from the Tacoma Dome, at around 1 a.m. on Sept. 3, 2023, The News Tribune previously reported. Upon extinguishing the fire, crews found human remains in the debris.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the remains as those of 18-year-old Chloee Moore, a woman who lived in the Hilltop area of Tacoma, according to The News Tribune’s prior reporting.
Tacoma Police detectives and crime scene technicians arrived on scene and started an investigation after her body was discovered, later determining that a homicide occurred. The investigation is ongoing, according to the Wednesday news release.
