Car with two kids hit by gunfire in Pierce County, deputies say. Two adults were injured

A drive-by shooting in Spanaway injured two people early Tuesday morning.

Pierce County deputies were dispatched to reports of the shooting near the 19000 block of Canyon Road East at 2:17 a.m. Gunfire struck a 19-year-old driver in the arm while his front passenger was grazed, according to a Pierce County Sheriff’s Department news release.

There were two more adults in the car and two children, a 2-year-old and 9-month old, the release said. Deputies applied a tourniquet to the driver before firefighters arrived to take over with medical aid.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The children were not injured, the release said.

The release said that the shooting took place closer to 78th Avenue East and 192nd Street East, but the victims pulled their vehicle over on Canyon Road to call 911.

No arrests have been made.
