A pedestrian was killed in Pierce County by a driver who fled. Witnesses sought

An investigation continues into the hit-and-run of a pedestrian who was found dead last week in Pierce County.

State Patrol was dispatched around midnight Friday to an unresponsive person at state Route 7 near B Street East. Bystanders attempted lifesaving measures before troopers arrived, The News Tribune reported.

The male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe a vehicle left the scene after striking the pedestrian who was crossing state Route 7. The driver is suspected of driving away without contacting emergency services, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

WSP is looking for the public’s help in identifying the driver and vehicle that might have been involved in the pedestrian’s death.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detective Tessa Schahfer at tessa.schahfer@wsp.wa.gov or by phone at 253-538-3172.
