Police: Drunken Spanaway woman crashes car with infant in her arms

A 40-year-old woman was arrested Saturday after allegedly throwing a knife at her husband and driving away with her 4-month-old daughter in her arms when deputies responded to their Spanaway home.

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies were called about 9:45 p.m. to the home in the 17800 block of 17th Avenue Court East about a domestic violence incident.

The husband and wife were both drunk, and the wife kept throwing a knife at her husband, sheriff’s Detective Lynelle Anderson said. The knife hit the husband’s arm once.

When deputies pulled up, the woman allegedly ran to her car and sped away with the couple’s infant daughter in her arms. The baby was not buckled in.

The woman’s car crashed into another car at Spanaway Loop Road and 174th Street South and rolled over.

The baby suffered cuts and bruises and was listed in stable condition Monday at a hospital. The woman suffered broken bones and also remained hospitalized.

Those in the second car were not seriously injured.

She will be booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and DUI when she is released from the hospital, Anderson said.
