Man dead after shooting involving Pierce County deputies in South Hill area

A felony-harassment investigation in the South Hill area ended with a fatal shooting involving deputies early Monday morning.

Deputies were dispatched at 2:01 a.m. to the 8500 block of 156th Street Court East for a suspicious vehicle. It was reported that a man who was in the vehicle fired a gunshot outside a home, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in a blotter post.

The man was sleeping inside the vehicle when deputies arrived, the post said. After speaking with the victims, probable cause was established for felony harassment.

“Deputies attempted contact with the male inside the vehicle, and shortly later, called out shots had been fired,” according to the post.

Deputies tried life-saving measures before fire department personnel arrived, but the man was pronounced dead. The post said no deputies were injured.

“The Pierce County Force Investigation Team will take over this investigation, which is standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting,” the post said.

As is routine, the three deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation, PCFIT said in a news release Monday.
