1 killed, 1 wounded in Tacoma shooting

An 18-year-old man was killed and a 20-year-old man wounded late Monday in a shooting in Tacoma, police said Tuesday.

Multiple people called 911 about 11:45 p.m. to report hearing gunshots in the 1800 block of East 44th Street. Officers arrived and found the two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

The teenager, Elijah Crawford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was taken to Tacoma General Hospital and was listed in serious condition Tuesday.

Crawford graduated from Lincoln High School in June. Tacoma Public Schools sent a counseling team to the high school Tuesday “because he was a very popular student in the school last year,” district spokesman Dan Voelpel said.

No information about what led up to the shooting was released.

No one has been arrested.
