Firefighters warn Lakewood residents of possible home inspection scam

Firefighters are discouraging Lakewood residents from letting into their homes people who say they are doing fire inspections but might be part of a scam.

“West Pierce Fire & Rescue does not go door-to-door for such inspections and wants the public to know these individuals are not affiliated with the fire department in any way,” spokeswoman Jenny Weekes said in a release Wednesday.

A man and woman have been going door-to-door in the Lakewood area, offering home fire inspections, she said.

They might be saying that they’re affiliated with a company, but Weekes said the fire department still suggests residents not let them inside.

Instead, West Pierce has been advising residents to report such interactions to police.
