Women’s shopping trips turn into knife vs. fist fight outside Lakewood store

Police said an early morning shopping trip turned into a fist and knife fight early Saturday, after two women fought outside a Lakewood store.

Police spokesman Chris Lawler gave this account:

The women — who knew each other and weren’t on good terms — ran into each other about 4 a.m. at the store in the 7000 block of Bridgeport Way West and exchanged words.

The words turned into a tussle in the store, and the two were separated. One left, and the other shoplifted a kitchen knife and took it to the parking lot, where the women again started to fight.

The woman with the knife cut an artery in the other’s neck and also seriously cut herself accidentally during the fight.

Both were taken to the hospital, and the woman with the neck injury was taken into surgery.

Further details were not immediately available.
