Gunshots send 5 victims to Tacoma hospital early Saturday

Gunshot wounds sent five people to the hospital in Tacoma early Saturday, just as bars and nightclubs were closing.

Two of the victims were found just before 2 a.m. in the vicinity of South Ninth Street and Pacific Avenue. A police officer working off-duty heard multiple gunshots just as area bars and nightclubs were clearing out.

When he arrived at South Ninth Street and South Pacific Avenue, he found a 21-year-old woman with a gunshot wound.

Soon after other officers arrived, a 16-year-old male with a gunshot would was located.

While officers were at the scene, they were notified that three other victims with gunshot wounds had arrived at St. Joseph Medical Center as walk-ins, Tacoma Police said. They were 18-, 19- and 27-year-old males.

Police have yet to determine if all of the victims are from the same incident.

Police said there were large numbers of people in the area at the time of the shooting. They are still investigating.

Conditions of the victims were unknown.
