Puyallup

Numerous sites accepting donations of school supplies

Local businesses are partnering with Communities in Schools of Puyallup, setting up donation boxes to collect back-to-school supplies for students in need, according to the Puyallup School District.

Supplies are being collected through Aug. 22 at American West Bank, 13605 Meridian Ave. E.; Columbia Bank, 4220 S. Meridian; KeyBank, at 511 River Road, 3903 S. Meridian and 15117 Meridian E.; Puyallup Foursquare Church, 601 Ninth Ave. SW; and Hair Masters, 1419 E. Main.

Red Canoe Credit Union is collecting supplies and will match pound-for-pound supplies donated at the following locations:

Red Canoe locations, 16510 Meridian St. E. and 601 39th Ave. SW; South Hill Mall Food Court, 3500 S. Meridian; Puyallup-Sumner Chamber of Commerce, 323 N. Meridian; Washington State Fair Administration Building, 110 Ninth Ave. SW; Puyallup City Hall, 333 S. Meridian and Puyallup School District Education Service Center, 302 Second St. SE.

Steilacoom

District gets Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant

The Steilacoom School District has been awarded the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant for students attending Anderson Island Elementary School in the 2014-15 school year.

Funds are provided to purchase a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables that can be offered to students throughout the school day. The program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction to help students learn more about healthy eating habits.
