Longtime Fife teacher and coach C.J. Cooper has died

C.J. Cooper, who taught and coached in Fife schools for nearly 30 years at Surprise Lake Middle School, Columbia Junior High and Fife High School, died over the weekend, school officials announced Monday.

An announcement on the school district website said details about the cause of death or memorial services were not immediately known.

The Fife School District is also mourning the recent loss of Superintendent John McCrossin, who died Aug. 26.

Staff members at both the high school and junior high school were informed of Cooper’s passing at staff meetings Monday, and students at both schools were notified by teachers. School officials also planned to send a letter home with students and to have counselors on hand at both schools.
