Public can hear from Fife school chief finalists

The three finalists for the job of Fife School District superintendent will be presented to the public at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The finalists are Kevin Alfano, Mark Knight and Chrys Sweeting. This is not a question and answer presentation; the candidates will speak about how their past experience informs their vision for Fife schools.

The presentations will be held at Columbia Junior High School, 2901 54th Ave. E.

UP School Board wins recognition

The University Place School Board was recently recognized as one of three Boards of the Year by the Washington State School Directors Association. The award recognizes school districts that promote research-based governance leading to high levels of student achievement.

Other state school boards recognized were Union Gap and Everett.

Students can receive college essay help

A free workshop to help high school students craft personal statement essays for college applications will be held 9:30 a.m.-noon and 12:30 p.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Topping Boys and Girls Club, 3875 S. 66th St., Tacoma. Students can sign up at info@graduatetacoma.org and should bring a draft or get started at the workshop. The event is sponsored by Graduate Tacoma and Write@253.
