Clover Park gets school design recognition

Clover Park School District’s Beachwood Elementary School on JBLM, has been recognized by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for meeting high-performance school design requirements as dictated by the 2010 Washington Sustainable School Protocol. State-funded school construction projects greater than 5,000 square feet must incorporate high-performance features into the school. Funding for the school came from the Department of Defense and the state’s school construction assistance program.

Back to school event scheduled at Sumner high

Sumner School District will be hosting a Back-to-School Resource fair at Sumner High School. With support from local businesses and organizations, district students will receive free backpacks, school supplies, haircuts and dental checkups. It is 3-5 p.m. Wednesday. Backpack drive collecting donations

The Trufant Family Foundation is sponsoring a backpack drive with support from Safelite Auto Glass collecting donations through Tuesday. Donations will be accepted at all Puget Sound Safelite locations or donations can be made through Amazon having items delivered to Safelite Auto Glass, 6426 S. Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA 98405

6 High school students win scholarships

Brianna Soulier, Emerald Ridge High School; Ellise Ward, Sumner High School; Eilish McLean, Foss High School; Derek Ramage, Custis Senior High School; Amanda Stice, Bellarmine Preparatory School; and Andrew Vo of Stadium High School were each awarded a $3,000 BECU Foundation scholarship. Recipients were chosen based on academic performance and volunteering.
