Soldier arrested after early morning gunshots at JBLM

Military police Sunday morning arrested a soldier who reportedly fired several gunshots into the air in a parking lot on Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Officers surrounded the soldier and he surrendered after a short standoff, base spokesman Joe Kubistek said. No one was hurt.

The soldier reportedly fired a weapon about 4:30 a.m. He was in custody by 5:45 a.m.

Pierce County law enforcement agencies assisted JBLM police in detaining the suspect.

Base spokesman Joe Piek said the Army would not release information about the suspect Sunday.
