Officials identify motorcyclist killed in crash near Fircrest

A man killed Friday night after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle making a turn at an intersection near Fircrest has been identified by the Pierce County medical examiner.

Brandon Casey Covert, 20, died of multiple blunt-force injuries near the intersection of Emerson and Orchard streets, according to a news release from the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. Covert was from Tumwater. The office ruled his death an accident.

Covert died at the scene of the crash. Police initially said the deceased motorcyclist was a 24-year-old man.

The crash occurred at 9:35 p.m. Nov. 5 when a motorcyclist traveling southbound on South Orchard Street struck a car turning left onto Orchard from South Emerson Street, a spokesperson from Tacoma Police Department said.

Investigators cited excessive speed as a factor in the crash.
