Drivers should avoid state Route 509 in Tacoma this week if at all possible, the state Department of Transportation said.
Crews will be working on the roadway between Alexander Avenue East and Norpoint Way Northeast, which has caused lengthy backups before, the state agency said.
The work is to repave part of the road and to make upgrades to sidewalk ramps in conformance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Daytime work will be from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Night work will be for 12 hours starting at 9 p.m. Friday, and from 7 p.m.-5 a.m. Aug. 17-21.
