Speed limits on two sections of state Route 161 in Eatonville will be lowered next week.
A traffic study prompted by residents’ safety concerns led to the changes, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The speed limit on State Route 161 from south of Mashel River Bridge to Alder Street East be reduced to 30 miles per hour from 35 mph. From north of Mashell Avenue South to north of Orville Road East, the speed limit will drop to 40 mph from 50 mph.
State crews will put up new speed limit signs Jan. 21. Law enforcement officers will begin enforcing the new speeds as soon as the signs are posted.
