Early-morning vehicle collisions on I-5 in Tacoma block lanes, seriously injure person

Tuesday-morning commuters going through Tacoma from either direction on Interstate 5 might have run into some light traffic delays due to collisions on both sides of the interstate.

Both collisions were reported near South 72nd Street shortly after 5 a.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation and state troopers.

In a tweet, Trooper Robert Reyer said the left lane was blocked on northbound Interstate 5 and the right lane was blocked going south. He advised drivers to slow down when approaching the area.

A person was also seriously injured in one of the collisions and transported to an area hospital.

It wasn’t immediately clear how either collision occurred.

Traffic incidents Tuesday morning on northbound and southbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma led to some lanes being blocked, according to the Washington State Patrol. A person was also seriously injured in one collision.
