Head-on vehicle collision in Parkland injures 5 and shuts down roadway, deputies say
A head-on collision involving two vehicles Monday morning in Parkland left five people injured and led to part of Steele Street South being closed to traffic for several hours.
A Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said one driver was being investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. That driver was the only occupant of their vehicle, and they were transported to an area hospital. Sgt. Darren Moss said the other vehicle involved was occupied by a driver and three children, all of whom were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The two vehicles collided in the 11400 block of Steele Street South, which turns into Spanaway Loop Road. According to a tweet from the Sheriff’s Department, Steele Street was closed between 112th and 116th streets. Drivers were asked to take alternate routes through the area.
The collision was reported at about 10:43 a.m. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews and deputies responded. Traffic investigators were also called to the scene.
It’s unclear when the roadway will reopen to traffic.
