Traffic: Road closure in Waller area begins this week for drainage improvements
Roads will close this week in the Waller area so that Pierce County crews can make drainage improvements at 44th Avenue East.
44th Avenue East from just north of 48th Street Court East to just south of 49th Street Court East will close from Dec. 20-23. Maintenance crews will replace drain pipes underneath the road to redirect a natural spring in order to prevent pavement damage issues and improve drainage, according to the official Pierce County website.
The closure will begin at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and remain for 24 hours a day until the work is complete. Local residents, emergency crews, mail deliveries and garbage crews are permitted from just north of 56th Street East to Pioneer Way East, the website said.
44th Avenue East in the 4900 block will be closed to all traffic, as a section of the road will be removed for the work. Residents and service providers will need to travel north or south along 44th Avenue East depending on where houses are located to avoid the closure, the website said.
Residents located north of the road closure will need to use 44th Avenue East and Pioneer Way East to get to their destination, the website said.
The website said that detours are in place for drivers. Drivers can go from 44th Avenue East to 56th Street East to 48th Avenue East to 64th Street East to 50th Avenue East to 72nd Street East. Drivers can then take 72nd Street East to either Canyon Road East or Waller Road East to get to Pioneer Way East, the website said.
