Crash on I-5 in Lakewood kills one and creates miles-long traffic nightmare
A collision on Interstate 5 in Lakewood killed one person, injured another and snarled traffic in the northbound lanes Tuesday evening, according to the state Department of Transportation and Washington State Patrol.
The 5:16 p.m. wreck near Bridgeport Way Southwest blocked the three right northbound lanes. One lane of traffic was moving past the scene, according to WSP spokesperson Trooper Dakota Russell.
Traffic was slowing as far south as Joint Base Lewis-McChord North, five miles to the south.
Russell said a semi truck was involved in the crash. The injured person was described as having life-threatening injuries.
The investigation and clean up was expected to keep lanes closed for a significant amount of time, he said.
Lakewood police said there was no access to I-5 from Bridgeport Way.
