Update: All lanes open after crash on I-5 backed up traffic near Joint Base Lewis-McChord

All lanes are now open near Joint Base Lewis-McChord at Thorne Lane after a three-vehicle crash earlier this afternoon, according to a post to X at 4:08 p.m. by the Washington State Department of Transportation.
First update:
All southbound lanes of I-5 were blocked from a collision near Joint Base Lewis-McChord at Thorne Lane as of 3:48 p.m., according to a post on X by the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Washington State Patrol spokesperson John Dattilo told The News Tribune via phone that the wreck was caused by a reckless driver.
Ruston police observed a driver going over 100 mph on southbound I-5, according to Dattilo. They were attempting to catch up when they saw that vehicle crash into two other cars.
One person was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the recklessly-driven vehicle is in custody on suspicion of reckless driving, he said.

A crash on Interstate 5 is blocking three left southbound lanes near Joint Base Lewis-McChord, according to a post on X by the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The first post about the crash at about 3:15 p.m. said the collision happened near Berkeley Street Southwest at milepost 122.68.
“All lanes are blocked for a crash near Thorne Lane,” a post at 3:33 p.m. said. “One lane of traffic is getting around the closure using the exit ramp. Use alternate routes until we’re able to clear the scene.”
Backups were stretching five miles, WSDOT reported at 3:50 p.m.
