Car vs. motorcycle crash in Pierce County causes backups on state highway

Traffic is stop-and-go on state Route 162 after a car vs. motorcycle collision near Orting on Wednesday.

Washington State Patrol spokesperson Kameron Watts posted on X just before 4:30 p.m. that troopers in east Pierce County were responding to the crash on state Route 162 and 149th Street Court East.

“Miraculously, there were off duty nurses and firefighters nearby that were able to assess the motorcycle driver who is alert and conscious,” he wrote.

The Washington State Department of Transportation real-time travel map shows backups extending about three miles northward on the highway toward Sumner. Traffic is also spilling onto Military Road East and 128th Street East.
