Firefighters put out large brush fire near Tacoma Mall

Crews from the Tacoma Fire Department extinguished a large brush fire north of the Tacoma Mall on Saturday.

Four engine trucks and a ladder truck were on the scene near 42nd Street South and Fife Street, said Capt. Darren Brassard. The fire was near the Apex Apartment complex, but no lives were threatened by the fire, Brassard said.

The Fire Department said it sprayed water on the Apex Apartments to protect them. No structures were damaged, and no one was injured.

The fire covered an area 75 by 100 feet, said Battalion Chief Lincoln Correa.

The cause of the brush fire was unknown, Correa said.
