Funeral to be held Dec. 27 for Brian Sullivan, former Tacoma lawmaker

A former Washington state lawmaker who was shot dead in Alaska this month will be honored at a funeral service Saturday in Tacoma.

Brian Sullivan served two terms in the Washington State Legislature, representing Pierce County’s 29th Legislative District from January 1997 to January 2001.

Sullivan was shot and killed Dec. 8 in Barrow, Alaska, where he was working as an assistant district attorney. He was 48.

A funeral will be held for Sullivan at 11 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 27) at Bellarmine Preparatory School, 2300 S. Washington St., Tacoma.

Sullivan, who was born in University Place, graduated from Bellarmine in 1985.

Sullivan left Tacoma for Alaska in 2001 while serving as an active duty member of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by daughters Molly, Anne Rose, and Madeleine; his sister Maura Sullivan of Bellevue; and his mother, Madeleine Sullivan, of University Place.

Donations in Sullivan’s memory can be made at any branch of Wells Fargo into the account titled “Molly Sullivan: Sullivan Daughters’ Donation” to benefit Sullivan’s children.

Donations may also be made in Sullivan’s name to the nonprofit organization Victims for Justice in Anchorage, Alaska ( www.victimsforjustice.net).
