Joe Lopez announced Tuesday that he will not run for the at-large Tacoma City Council race.
He and his wife, Evelyn, started a law firm in Tacoma earlier this year. Lopez said in an interview that he felt he couldn’t devote enough time to the business while remaining a viable candidate for the citywide seat.
“It was becoming clear it just wasn’t going to work out,” Lopez said of his campaign. With a new business, he added, there’s always more time he needs to devote to his new law firm.
Lopez announced his candidacy in January, after Councilman David Boe said he wasn’t going to run for re-election.
