Construction this week on the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge:

Anchors: Crews on a barge south of the existing bridge are installing anchors that will be used to stabilize the new caissons. As of Friday, 41 of the 64 anchors had been installed.

Caissons: At the Port of Tacoma, crews are adding concrete walls to cutting edges, docked at Terminal 7. The schedule for the first caisson leaving the port has been postponed about three weeks, until the end of July, because of tides.

Road work: On the Gig Harbor side, crews are excavating and realigning roads to accommodate the bridge approach. Highway 16 was to be closed this morning so that concrete spans could be hoisted onto supports at the new overpass on 24th Avenue Northwest. The new overpass is to open in mid-August, ahead of schedule.
