Construction this week on the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge:
Caissons: The Gig Harbor caisson, hauled into position Monday, had 13 of 16 anchors attached as of Friday. The first concrete pour on that caisson is scheduled for this Friday, Aug. 29.
Narrowsgate: This Gig Harbor construction complex is taking longer than expected. TNC and DOT wanted the 10,000-square-foot modular office building, staging area and parking lot in place by Aug. 18. Instead, filling and other site preparation work will continue this week.
Roadways: Lots of paving this week. TNC crews will hit the new off-ramp from westbound Highway 16 to 24th Street Northwest in Gig Harbor and also the two sections of 24th between the new overpass and Jahn Avenue Northwest and 14th Avenue Northwest. They'll also pave the intersection of 22nd Avenue Northwest and 36th Street Northwest.

Anchorages: Excavation for the Tacoma-side anchorage continues at the former War Memorial Park. The first concrete pour on that anchorage is scheduled for October.
Q: When are they going to close Stone Drive?
A: Sept. 3, at about 9 a.m., says the DOT. That's the day after the new 24th Street overpass opens.
The DOT and TNC are holding a Narrows Bridge open house from 6 to 8 pm. Tuesday at Hunt Middle School, 6501 S. 10th St. in Tacoma.
