Special Reports

Construction this week on the new Tacoma Narrows bridge:

It'll be a productive week on many fronts.

Roadways: Each weeknight, crews will be paving the Highway 16 median on the Gig Harbor side of the existing bridge between 24th and 36th streets northwest. So, the left lane of the eastbound traffic will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.

The paving will depend on the weather and could be postponed if it rains.

Anchorage: Crews will be placing rebar and forming a retaining wall on the east anchorage. A concrete pour is scheduled Thursday on the west anchorage.

Toll building: Construction of the exterior walls on the toll operations building will continue through the week. The office complex is on the Gig Harbor side near 24th Street Northwest, off the south side of the highway.

Towers: Two concrete pours are scheduled for the Tacoma tower, which stands 110 feet above sea level. One concrete pour is scheduled late in the week for the Gig Harbor tower, which stands 128 feet above sea level.
