Construction this week on the new Tacoma Narrows bridge:
Crews will continue to spin the miles of cable across the towers that eventually will be compressed into two 5 million-pound suspension cables.
Workers will continue to retrofit the existing bridge’s east anchorage to meet current seismic codes. They will dig around the supports to beef up the structure. This process has been going on for months.
Several landscaping projects have begun near the eastern and western ends of the bridge. Crews have been planting seeds near the 24th Street Northwest interchange on Highway 16 in Gig Harbor.
