Roadwork that fell behind schedule snarled traffic Friday morning along Highway 16 between Gig Harbor and Tacoma.
Construction to create access to a new ramp on the western side of the bridge was to be finished by 6 a.m., but Tacoma Narrows Constructors, the contractor handling the work, did not finish in time.
The delay caused traffic backups in both directions along Highway 16 during the morning commute. Westbound traffic was backed up to Interstate 5.
All lanes were open later in the day.
