Construction this week on the new Tacoma Narrows bridge:
The new onramp from Tacoma’s Jackson Avenue to the bridge is getting close to completion. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, one lane of westbound Highway 16 will be closed in that area while road crews prepare to open the ramp. The closures will last from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Next week, the ramp will be shut for several days while workers pave a connection from the new ramp to Highway 16. Drivers will be detoured.
Anchorage crews poured the top deck on the Tacoma anchorage Friday. The steel will arrive for the Gig Harbor top deck this week.

The toll plaza is nearly finished. Some final welding remains to be done on the canopy over the toll booths. Inside the toll operations building, workers are doing finish work, including painting and tiling.
Lots of tower work this week: All tower legs should be up to the 372-foot level by the end of the week. If work goes according to schedule, the south leg of the Gig Harbor tower will reach 390 feet, on the way to the eventual 510 feet.
Strut crews on the Gig Harbor tower will begin bolting on brackets for the middle strut.
