Construction this week on the new Tacoma Narrows bridge:
Both bridge towers will pass the 310-foot mark this week, with pours scheduled for Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The top will go on the Gig Harbor anchorage this week. Wednesday, crews will set a dozen 66-foot-long girders on top of the side walls. Thursday, they’ll set two box girders on either end. The girders are made of prestressed concrete and will be lifted into place with a crane.
On the Tacoma anchorage, the girders are already in and crews will work on stiffening diaphragms in preparation for pouring the top layer of concrete.
