Workers constructing the steel mesh catwalks on the Gig Harbor side of the new Tacoma Narrows bridge ran into a problem Wednesday.
The catwalk nearest the existing bridge slid down the guide wires on the 510-foot tower and bunched up. It appeared to still be attached to its guide wires.
“I think it was typical construction trial and error,” said Erin Babbo, spokeswoman for Tacoma Narrows Constructors, which is building the mile-long bridge. She said she knew no more about what had happened.
Builders will review the bridge’s work plans and begin to fix the problem today, she said.
