Horse Heaven Hills viticultural area turns 10

The Horse Heaven Hills American Viticultural Area turns 10 this year.

To celebrate, the Horse Heaven Hills Wine Growers are holding a “Ten Years of Terroir” event.

The event begins at 6 p.m. June 26 at the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center in Prosser and will feature a tasting of 2005 wines produced in the Horse Heaven Hills region, coupled with food pairings.

Established in 2005, the viticultural area initially included 6,000 acres for vineyards. It was once considered to be an arid landscape, according to a news release, but today it produces award-winning wines.

As a result, the area of production has doubled, with more than 12,000 acres of dedicated viticultural lands in the area today.

Tickets for the event are $100 per person. Fifty tickets are available.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the Horse Heaven Hills Wine Growers scholarship fund and the Clore Center.
