Neighbor chases after naked man racing into woods with 3-year-old, Washington cops say
A 28-year-old naked man snatched a 3-year-old girl and dashed into the woods in Washington, deputies said.
A neighbor heard the commotion and chased after him with a gun in his hand, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
The mom had been holding her daughter when she saw her brother-in-law without clothes on standing next to a fire in her backyard Saturday, March 16, in south Kitsap County, deputies said.
Deputies said he assaulted her.
Neighbor tries to help child
A neighbor came out with a small handgun when he heard the mom screaming, so he fired a “shot to break up the assault,” deputies said.
Then the neighbor ran after the man into the woods where he shot at him a few more times, hitting his hand and arm, deputies said.
Eventually the neighbor got the child away from the man and ran back toward his home, deputies said.
As he was running away with the child, deputies said he tripped and fell.
The girl continued to run toward the home, but the naked man “caught up with and began assaulting the neighbor by biting on his leg and then on his stomach,” deputies said.
The neighbor used his gun to strike the man because he didn’t have bullets left, deputies said.
Deputies said the neighbor also put the man in a chokehold before fleeing back to his home and locking himself inside.
When deputies got to the area, the man walked out of the woods. He was detained and taken to a trauma center for his injuries, deputies said.
Kitsap County is about 25 miles west of Seattle.
