Dog tumbles into 30-foot well, balances on bucket before Washington rescuers step in
A large dog plunged into an abandoned 30-foot well and balanced on a bucket until rescuers reached it in Washington, officials said.
Firefighters responded to a call Monday, Oct. 14, at a residence in Suquamish, the North Kitsap Fire & Rescue said in a Facebook post.
People witnessed the dog fall into the well, and they called for help, fire officials said.
When firefighters got to the scene, the dog was on the bucket in the well. It was filled with 20 feet of water, officials said.
Rescuers had to contact another team with technical rescue skills to retrieve the dog.
“After putting safety measures in place, these specialists returned the dog to the surface,” fire officials said.
The animal was taken to the Kitsap Humane Society, and officials said it was uninjured. It was then returned to its family.
Residents told firefighters the well would be capped after this incident.
Suquamish is about a 20-mile drive and ferry ride northwest from Seattle.
