Man stabs his ex’s friend when they try to pick up her things, Washington cops say
An 18-year-old man stabbed his ex’s friend when they tried to pick up her things at his Washington home, police said.
The incident happened at about 3:15 p.m. Oct. 5 in Spokane Valley, the police department said in a Facebook post.
Police said the woman had broken up with Daniel R. Cozby earlier that day, but he wouldn’t leave her alone and kept calling her.
She brought her friend and his other ex to his home to get her things, police said.
The woman arranged a time with his female relative, who is a child, so she could stop by when Cozby wasn’t home, police said.
When they met up, however, Cozby “jumped out from behind a concrete barrier” and started arguing, police said.
“Well, I have a gun and a knife and I’m not afraid to use it,” he told them, police said.
They walked away toward a bus stop, and he approached them a few minutes later saying he was going to get his “gun” and knife, police said.
He returned with a large knife in one hand and what appeared to be a black pistol in the other hand, police said.
Police said he pointed the weapon at them and threatened to kill and hurt them.
At one point, he stabbed his ex’s friend in the leg and the knife fell to the ground, police said.
His family member tried to grab it, so Cosby “wrestled with her over control of the knife” and pointed the gun at her head, police said.
A witness called 911, and Cosby was detained, police said.
He was taken to a hospital for wounds he got while wrestling for the knife, police said.
Police said they found the gun and discovered it was a “realistic-looking BB pistol.”
Cosby was booked into jail on four felony charges of first-degree assault, in addition to interfering with the reporting of domestic violence and third-degree malicious mischief.
