Fire commissioners declare Emergency Medical Services Week in Onalaska
May 22-Members of the Lewis County Fire District 1 Board of Commissioners declared the week of May 18 as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in a proclamation made at the commissioners' regular meeting in Onalaska on Monday.
EMS Week is meant to allow residents in the area to thank their local EMS professionals in their local fire departments. Among those with EMS training include many first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, emergency room physicians and nurses, dispatchers and more.
"Members of Emergency Medical Services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills ... The citizens of Lewis County benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of these highly trained individuals," the commissioners said in the proclamation. "It is appropriate to recognize the value and accomplishments of emergency medical services providers."
