Brian Brett honored as Washington Fire Chief of the Year

Brian Brett has been named Washington Fire Chief of the Year.

The Washington State Fire Chiefs presented Brett with the Dan Parker Fire Chief of the Year award May 20 at its annual banquet, according to a news release.

"It's very flattering, very humbling, what a wonderful peer group to belong to. However, all the credit goes to the team," Brett said. "I am surrounded by talent, unprecedented talent, and drive and ambition throughout the whole department. There is no way we couldn't be successful. I just get to receive the honors for the product we've developed."

The award, named after Dan Packer, former president of the Washington State Fire Chiefs and fire chief of East Pierce Fire & Rescue, recognizes leadership, dedication to the fire service and commitment to the communities firefighters serve.

According to the department, Brett was nominated multiple times by his peers. Department officials said Brett has focused on professional excellence, regional collaboration and advancing fire and emergency services throughout the Wenatchee Valley and across Washington state.

"The totality of everything we have done over the last eight years. Bringing everybody together, everybody being all in on what we needed to do to make the fire service what it is now, and we've just begun. In 36 more months, this fire department's going to be built out into a force to reckon with and provide the level of service the community deserves," Brett said.
