Red Cross seeks donations for emergencies during travel season
You can help save a life.
The American Red Cross is encouraging blood and platelet donations at locations statewide, including sites in Chelan and Douglas counties.
Officials said appointments are needed to help hospitals maintain supplies for emergencies and summer-related incidents. They said maintaining blood products is especially important during the busy travel season, when injuries from car crashes, boating accidents and outdoor recreation typically increase.
People of all blood types are encouraged to donate.
Appointments can be scheduled at RedCrossBlood.org, by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or through the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
Donors who give blood by May 31 will receive an oversized Red Cross beach towel, while supplies last. Those who donate between June 1 and June 28 will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice and will be entered into a drawing for one of two $7,500 gift cards.
Upcoming blood collections in Chelan and Douglas counties include:
* June 2, 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Cashmere United Methodist Church, 213 S. Division St., Cashmere
* June 3, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Wenatchee First United Methodist Church, 941 Washington St., Wenatchee
* June 4, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Awaken Wenatchee, 2 Fifth St., Wenatchee
* June 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Red Lion Hotel Wenatchee City Center, 1225 N. Wenatchee Ave., Wenatchee
