Stage Kids brings ‘Matilda JR.' to Numerica PAC stage this spring

Books will fly, children will revolt and one intimidating headmistress may finally meet her match when Stage Kids brings "Matilda JR." to the stage this spring.

Based on the story by Roald Dahl, the musical follows Matilda Wormwood, a brilliant young girl armed with a vivid imagination, sharp wit and extraordinary powers of her own. Neglected by her parents and terrorized by the fearsome Miss Trunchbull, Matilda discovers that courage, kindness and cleverness can sometimes turn the world upside down - especially with help from her fellow "revolting children."

Directed by Grace Dorey, the Stage Kids production features high-energy dance numbers, catchy songs and the joyful chaos that makes family theater popular. The cast, made up of students in fourth through eighth grades, has spent months rehearsing while balancing school, homework and weekend practices.

The production runs May 24-31 at the Numerica Performing Arts Center, where audiences can expect larger-than-life characters, comedy and moments of heartfelt emotion. At its core, "Matilda JR." celebrates children who refuse to stay small, quiet or overlooked.

For many Stage Kids performers, the final curtain on "Matilda JR." will not mark the end of the theater season. Summer programming is already around the corner, with Stage Kids offering musical theater camps, showcase camps and production intensives designed to keep young performers singing, dancing and creating during the school break.

This year's offerings include showcase camps inspired by "The Rainbow Fish" and a summer production camp featuring Finding Nemo KIDS.
