Man charged with murder after fight results in death

A 65-year-old Skagit County man was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly killing another man May 11 during a fight west of Conway.

According to court records, Terry Ray Shelley-Mann has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Gary Sanders. Shelley-Mann is being held in the Skagit County Community Justice Center on $1 million bail.

Court records state that the fight allegedly stemmed from Sanders refusing to pay Shelley-Mann $150 after Shelley-Mann washed Sanders' truck and trailer at an RV park along the Skagit River.

Sanders' refusal to pay was allegedly over his dissatisfaction with the job done by Shelley-Mann.

According to a bystander, during the fight the two men fell to the ground, and Shelley-Mann put his knee on Sanders' neck. The bystander said Shelley-Mann's knee remained on Sanders' neck for several minutes.

Sanders then lost consciousness and stopped breathing.

Shelley-Mann and the bystander performed CPR until paramedics arrived on the scene.

Sanders was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital, where he died May 16.

An autopsy showed injuries to Sanders' neck consistent with his neck having been kneeled upon and pressure being applied.
